Tamil Nadu MLAs to Get Government Cars, ₹1 Lakh Monthly Support

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay has announced a new support package for all 234 MLAs, including government vehicles for constituency work. Each legislator will receive ₹75,000 per month towards fuel, driver and maintenance expenses, along with an additional ₹25,000 monthly grant to hire a secretary, taking the total monthly support to ₹1 lakh.

The announcement was welcomed by several members of the ruling alliance, while the opposition DMK questioned the financial burden of providing vehicles and allowances to all legislators. The government said the measures would help MLAs serve their constituencies more effectively, particularly newly elected representatives who may face logistical challenges.
