Tata Electronics’ Semiconductor Unit in Assam to Begin Production Early Next Year
India’s first indigenous semiconductor assembly and test unit at Jagiroad will start production early next year, manufacturing 15 billion chips annually.
During the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, Tata Electronics signed MoUs with ten vendors from Singapore, Malaysia, and Japan for equipment and engineering support. A separate MoU with Tokyo Electron (TEL) includes workforce training and R&D collaboration.
The facility, already employing 2,000 youths from Assam, focuses on wire bond, flip chip, and ISP (integrated systems packaging) technologies. Around 500 Assamese women are being trained to operate complex chip-packaging machines.
Tata is collaborating with IIT Guwahati and NIELIT to develop industry-specific training programs. CEO Randhir Thakur stated that every job at Jagiroad will create ten more in the ecosystem, with 100+ global customers and 1,000 suppliers expected to be part of the supply chain.
