Tea Workers Protest in Golaghat Over Land Acquisition and Compensation Issues

Work at Letekujan Tea Estate in Golaghat halted on Tuesday as hundreds of workers and community groups protested against alleged unfair land acquisition and lack of compensation. The agitation, led by several tea labour and student organisations, accused the Assam government and NRL of taking 75 bighas of estate land without adequate payment or livelihood assurances.
Protesters said land was initially taken for road expansion ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit, but more was later acquired without clarity. They alleged that promised benefits were not delivered and claimed workers were now offered only minimal compensation. Demonstrators demanded justice, saying they support development but have received nothing in return.
