Tezpur Demands Airport Be Named After Bhupen Hazarika

Residents of Tezpur have expressed anger over the continued neglect of their demand to name Tezpur Airport after music legend Dr Bhupen Hazarika. Despite repeated appeals since 2011, including a public meeting led by social worker Manoj Borah, the state government has not acted. Instead, the Chief Minister announced Dibrugarh Airport will carry Hazarika’s name, sparking protests in Tezpur. A new forum, Tezpur Sanmilita Sashetan Nagarik Mancha, has been formed to intensify the campaign and collect public signatures, with plans to re-submit a memorandum to the PM and DoNER Minister.
