Tezpur University Agitation Continues Until Official Removal Order of VC

Protests at Tezpur University intensified as students, faculty and staff vowed to continue a shutdown until the Centre formally confirms the removal of Vice Chancellor Shambhu Nath Singh. The agitation, ongoing since mid-September over alleged corruption and irregularities, escalated when a Union Education Ministry delegation was blocked inside the campus for hours on Saturday night.
The team was allowed to leave only after providing a handwritten assurance stating the VC would not administer the university until a time-bound inquiry is completed. Despite this, protestors said they will continue non-cooperation until an official government notification is issued.
All academic activities have been suspended since November 29, forcing cancellation of end-term exams. The Ministry has stated the matter is under review and action will be taken in the university’s interest.
