Tiger Bitterns Sighted Again at Jatinga After Nine Years Amid Bird Suicide Phenomenon

After a nine-year gap, tiger bitterns have been spotted during Jatinga’s mysterious bird suicide phenomenon, which occurs from September to November. This rare sighting is attributed to increased awareness about bird protection. Migratory birds, including Indian pittas, kingfishers, and drongos, arrive under specific weather conditions, though their numbers have declined due to environmental changes. Nearby Doiheng village also witnessed a record number of birds. Efforts by the forest department and locals to protect the birds have improved conservation efforts in the area.
