Tragic Incident: Minor Boy Swept Away by Drain Waters in Guwahati

In a tragic incident, 8-year-old Avilash Sarkar was swept away by waters from a roadside drain in Guwahati’s Jyoti Nagar locality on Thursday night. While returning home on a scooter with his father and another man amid heavy rainfall, the scooter skidded on the slippery road, causing Avilash, who was seated in the middle, to fall into the drain. The strong current quickly carried him away.

The father, in a desperate attempt to save his son, jumped into the drain but could not reach him in time. The incident was immediately reported to the Chandmari Police Station. Police and SDRF personnel launched a search operation, which continued through Friday morning with the help of local residents.

The community is in shock and mourning. Avilash, a resident of Bhawani Pur in Noonmati, had finished his exams the previous day and had spent the day at his father’s shop, opting to go home with his father despite his mother’s offer to take him home.
