Tragic Road Accident Claims Life in Cachar District
In a tragic road accident in the Kumarpara area of Nayagram, Barkhola assembly constituency, Cachar district, a 70-year-old man named Ashwini Kumar Rai lost his life after being hit by a four-wheeler carrying illegal Burmese supari (areca nuts).
Authorities had been trailing the vehicle loaded with Burmese supari, leading the driver to exceed the speed limit. In an attempt to evade capture, the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with Ashwini Kumar Rai. The impact caused the car to overturn in the middle of the road.
Locals rushed the elderly victim to Silchar Medical College Hospital (SMCH) for medical treatment, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries during the course of treatment.
Cachar police took swift action, seizing the Burmese supari-laden four-wheeler and apprehending the driver identified as Kumrul Sheikh, hailing from Panchgram in Cachar district. The incident sheds light on the dangers of illegal activities on the roads, resulting in a tragic loss of life.
