Tripura Approves First Private Medical College Amid Concerns Over High Fees

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced the approval of the state’s first private medical college, TSMC, Ranirkhamar, for the 2024-25 academic year. The college will offer 150 MBBS seats, with 50% reserved for local students. However, the reported fee of ₹1 crore has drawn criticism from Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman and Opposition leader Jitendra Chaudhury, who raised concerns about affordability and transparency in the approval process. Saha defended the decision, emphasizing proper scrutiny of the trust managing TSMC and pledged continuous monitoring for smooth operations.
