Trump Jokes About Canada Becoming the 51st State Amid Trade Talks

Donald Trump

During a trade meeting at Mar-a-Lago, US President-elect Donald Trump reportedly suggested that Canada could become the 51st state if it fails to resolve border and trade issues. This remark followed Trump’s threat of imposing tariffs on Canadian goods over illegal immigration and drug trafficking concerns.

While the suggestion was made in jest, Trudeau warned that such tariffs would harm Canada’s economy. The meeting, described as “very productive” by Trump, focused on tariffs, trade imbalances, and border security, but the statehood comment went unaddressed officially.
