Two Accused in Nagaon Gang-Rape Case Surrender After 16-Day Manhunt
After a 16-day search, police apprehended Golap Uddin and Faridul Islam, the two main suspects in the gang-rape case in Nagaon’s Dhing. The duo surrendered to Dhing Police on Friday night. Golap, a barber, and Faridul, a driver, had been on the run since the alleged crime on August 22.
According to Nagaon SP Swapnaneel Deka, the suspects were located with the assistance of a Minority Sangram Samiti and other organizations. Golap was hiding in Morigaon’s Lahorighat, while Faridul was traced to Nagaland. Despite their claims of innocence, both were arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.
The incident has sparked public outrage, with locals demanding capital punishment and an impartial investigation. The third suspect, Tafajjul Islam, reportedly died after jumping into a pond on August 24 when police attempted to recreate the crime scene.
