ULFA-I Plans Sabotage Ahead of Protest Day
Intelligence suggests that ULFA-I is preparing for sabotage in Assam before its “Protest Day” on November 28. Armed cadres have entered the state from Myanmar and Bangladesh to recruit, extort, and ambush security forces. Police recently recovered an IED in Golaghat, believed to be linked to the group.
ULFA-I is testing explosives and increasing its recruitment and extortion activities, especially in Upper Assam. The unrest in Myanmar has allowed the group to strengthen, with an estimated 250-400 militants currently active. Security forces have detained several ULFA-I associates involved in extortion.
