Uncertainty Over Assam NRC Continues

Five years after the NRC’s release in Assam, its recognition as an official document remains unclear. Over 19 lakh applicants were excluded, but no action has been taken to address the issue.

AASU chief adviser Samujjal Bhattacharya criticized the central and state governments for irregularities in the process and their lack of follow-up. AASU and others have sought re-verification through the Supreme Court, but no government petitions have been filed. Bhattacharya urged serious action, noting the NRC could have been a national model.
