Unchecked Street Vending Worsens Congestion in Guwahati

Guwahati’s streets are overcrowded as unchecked street vending continues due to the Guwahati Municipal Corporation’s (GMC) failure to enforce regulations. Beltola Road is among the worst-hit areas, causing traffic chaos. Despite announcing 81 vending zones, GMC has not conducted a proper survey since 2015. Vendors face eviction without alternatives, while poor planning and delays in implementing the Street Vendors Act, 2014, worsen the crisis.
