Underage Marriage Prevented in Assam’s Tamulpur District

An underage marriage was thwarted in Assam’s Tamulpur district by an NGO and police. The wedding, arranged by Rahim Ali for his 16-year-old daughter with Saidul Ali (27), was about to take place in Deusunga village. The Assam Centre for Rural Development alerted authorities, who intervened and stopped the marriage. The girl’s real age was confirmed via her school certificate, while a fake birth certificate had falsely shown her age as 18. Two people were arrested for forging the document, but the girl’s father fled.
