Union Budget 2026–27 Highlights Strong Push for Northeast, Assam

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her record ninth consecutive Union Budget on Sunday, outlining a growth-focused and inclusive roadmap for 2026–27. The Budget places strong emphasis on the Northeast, especially Assam, with initiatives in healthcare, tourism, agriculture, fisheries and urban infrastructure. Tezpur was named a regional apex centre for mental healthcare, while Buddhist tourism circuits and green mobility projects were announced. Key proposals also include City Economic Regions, expanded inland waterways, support for agar cultivation, women-led enterprises and fisheries development, aimed at boosting livelihoods and regional growth.
