Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Lays Foundation for Second Ayurvedic College in Assam, Marks Historic Boost to Traditional Medicine

Union Minister and former CM Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the foundation stone for Assam’s second Ayurvedic college in Dudhnoi, Goalpara district, on March 4, marking a significant milestone for Ayurveda education in the state. This venture, the second Ayurvedic college in Assam after 76 years, aims to revitalize traditional medicine. Additionally, Sonowal virtually laid foundation stones for two 50-bed AYUSH hospitals in Kokrajhar and Baksa. The minister highlighted the rich heritage of traditional medicine in Assam, criticizing past administrations, particularly Congress-led regimes, for neglecting it. Emphasizing the importance of a robust healthcare system integrating modern and traditional medicine, Sonowal praised the current government’s focus on traditional medicine and announced the estimated Rs 70 crore Ayurvedic college’s plans to admit 100 students for the undergraduate course (BAMS) initially, with provisions for future postgraduate courses. The campus will also feature a herbal garden and a unit for manufacturing Ayurvedic medicines.
