Water Crisis at Assam Engineering College Sparks Student Protests

Students of Assam Engineering College’s Hostel No. 3 faced a two-week water crisis after its deep borewell dried up, forcing many to leave campus during exams. Protesting students blocked the Jalukbari campus gate with empty buckets, prompting police deployment.
PWD officials have now confirmed that work on a new borewell will begin immediately. Over 70 boarders were affected, with some blaming excessive borewell use in nearby residential areas.
The SFI criticised the government and college authorities for poor infrastructure and lack of funds, demanding urgent repairs and long-term solutions.
