Wild Elephant Carcass Found Near India-Bhutan Border in Tamulpur

Tamulpur: A wild elephant carcass was recovered from No. 1 Darangapar in Kumarikata along the India-Bhutan border on Friday, marking the second elephant death reported in the area within three days. Forest Department officials reached the site after receiving information from local residents and began an investigation into the cause of death.

Officials, including Baksa DFO Dhirendranath Basumatary and Kumarikata Forest Range Officer Prabhat Barman, inspected the carcass. The exact cause of death will be determined after a post-mortem examination. The incident comes days after an elephant calf was found dead near Anthaibari in No. 2 Dongergaon, where preliminary findings suggested food poisoning. The latest death has raised concern amid increasing human-elephant conflict along the Bhutan border, with wild elephant herds reportedly entering villages and damaging crops and houses.
