Wild Elephant Dies After Consuming Plastic Waste in Numaligarh

A shocking incident in Numaligarh revealed that a wild elephant died after consuming plastic waste dumped along a national highway.

The 8–10-year-old male elephant was found dead at a tea estate on January 22. A post-mortem confirmed that plastic ingestion caused severe gas formation and digestive failure, leading to its death.

The case was highlighted by RTI activist Dilip Nath. Concerns have been raised over rampant plastic dumping near Deopahar forest and around the Nambor-Doigrung Wildlife Sanctuary.

The incident has intensified calls for stricter waste management to protect wildlife.
