Youth Detained for Protesting Tree Felling in Bharalumukh

Three youth were detained early Sunday for protesting against tree felling for a proposed flyover in Bharalumukh. The detainees, including artist Marshal Baruah, were held at Bharalumukh Police Station after creating graffiti with an objectionable slogan targeting Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. Protesters, led by the Bharalumukh Nagarik Samannay Raksha Samiti, have been opposing the tree felling for days, forming human chains and stressing the need for development that respects the environment. Locals, students, and environmentalists have voiced concerns over the long-term consequences of the project. Tight security remains at the police station.
