309 Families Evicted From Biswanath Government Land

Biswanath district administration evicted 309 families from 175 bighas of grazing reserve land in Nonke Japoriguri. Over 1,000 police personnel and heavy machinery were deployed. Many families dismantled homes themselves after notices on August 1.

Officials said the land will be used for afforestation. Evictees, many displaced by floods decades ago, sought rehabilitation. AAMSU condemned the eviction as “inhuman” and demanded resettlement before such drives.
