4.8 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Myanmar, Tremors Felt in Assam

A 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar early on January 24, 2025, with tremors felt in Assam and Northeast India. The quake, at a depth of 106 km, caused panic but no reported damage or injuries. Earlier, on January 21, a 4.1 magnitude quake in South West Khasi Hills, Meghalaya, also shook Assam and West Bengal, with no casualties or significant damage. In December 2024, Northeast India experienced 20 earthquakes, with Manipur recording the highest at six incidents.
