455 Candidates Lose Security Deposit in Assam Assembly Polls

A total of 455 out of 722 candidates who contested the Assam Assembly elections have forfeited their security deposits after failing to secure more than one-sixth of the valid votes in their constituencies.

The list includes candidates from major parties such as BJP, Congress, AAP, AGP, AIUDF and UPPL, along with 248 independents and 102 candidates from unrecognized parties.

According to the Election Commission report, the elections witnessed a record voter turnout of 86.33%. Female voter turnout surpassed male turnout, with over 1.08 crore women casting their votes compared to 1.06 crore men.
