47 Sonapur Families Move SC Against Eviction Drive

47 families from Assam’s Sonapur have approached the Supreme Court, challenging an eviction drive on a 100-bigha plot in Kosutoli. The families filed a contempt petition, citing a Supreme Court order from September 17 that halted all eviction drives nationwide until October 1. The plea is set for hearing on September 30 by Justices B.R. Gavai and K.V. Vishwanathan.

Earlier, on September 12, a clash between police and residents led to two deaths. Following the incident, DGP Assam, G.P. Singh, visited the site, suggesting a possible “conspiracy” behind the unrest.
