50 Koch-Rajbongshi Leaders Quit UPPL in Bijni Over Tribal Status Issues

In a major setback for the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), around 50 Koch-Rajbongshi leaders and workers resigned from the party in Bijni on Saturday. The resignations were triggered by dissatisfaction over the party’s handling of the long-pending demand for tribal recognition and Sixth Schedule safeguards.

Key district and block-level leaders, including Amar Roy, Simanta Barman and Parameshwar Roy, accused UPPL president Pramod Boro of failing to provide a clear roadmap or tangible progress on these issues. The leaders said the decision was taken collectively after consultations with grassroots workers and reflected growing anger within the Koch-Rajbongshi community. They have not yet announced their next political move.
