AASU Protests Over Textbook Shortage in Assam Schools

The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) staged a protest at the Inspector of Schools office in Dibrugarh on Tuesday, decrying irregularities in textbook distribution. Activists criticized the government for failing to supply adequate textbooks, with many schools receiving significantly fewer books than needed. AASU leader Rupjyoti Borthakur highlighted the persistent failures in the education department, accusing the government of neglecting students’ needs despite various public schemes.

In Kokrajhar, AASU members expressed similar concerns, emphasizing that nearly two months into the academic year, many students still lack essential textbooks. They submitted a memorandum demanding immediate action from Education Minister Ranoj Pegu and the state government to ensure timely textbook distribution, warning of the adverse impact on students’ education.
