New IIM Approved for Guwahati, Assam by Modi Government

The central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the establishment of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Guwahati in Assam, as announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday. The state government will provide a plot of land in the Marabhita area of Kamrup district, near Guwahati, free of cost and encumbrances. IIM Ahmedabad will act as the mentor institute for this new IIM. The Ministry of Education has instructed IIM Ahmedabad to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) in consultation with the Assam government. CM Sarma expressed his excitement, noting that this approval adds to Guwahati’s status as a city housing several premier institutions, including an IIT, AIIMS, and a National Law University.
