Assam’s Charaideo Moidam Named UNESCO World Heritage Site

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma celebrated Charaideo Moidam’s inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List during his Independence Day speech. This marks India’s 43rd UNESCO site and the first from Northeast India. Sarma highlighted the state government’s efforts and funding for the site’s conservation. Located in eastern Assam, Charaideo Moidam, a royal necropolis of the Tai-Ahom dynasty, features sacred burial mounds and is revered by the local Ahom community.
