IIT-Guwahati Bans Journalists Amid Student Protests Over Suspected Suicide

IIT-Guwahati has barred journalists from entering its campus following the suspected suicide of Binmalesh Kumar, a 21-year-old third-year Computer Science student. His body was found in his hostel room, sparking protests among students who blame academic pressure and strict attendance rules for creating a “toxic environment.”

Despite ongoing protests, the institute has requested media to stay away, assuring that the situation is being prioritized. This marks the third student suicide at IIT-Guwahati this year, raising concerns about student well-being.
