Man Arrested for Alleged Rape of 12-Year-Old in Assam

A 45-year-old man was arrested in Assam’s Cachar district for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl, his neighbor, while she was out relieving herself in an open area. The accused abducted the minor and committed the crime in an open field. When the girl didn’t return home on time, her family searched for her and found her lying in the field, while the accused had fled.

The mother of the victim filed a complaint at the Katigorah Police Station, seeking the strictest punishment for the culprit. Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta confirmed the arrest under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act of 2012 and stated that further investigation is ongoing.
