Opposition Alliance in Assam Rebrands as ‘Asom Sonmilito Morcha’

The opposition alliance, including Congress, has been rebranded as “Asom Sonmilito Morcha” (ASOM) to present a unified front against the BJP-led government. Lurinjyoti Gogoi, Secretary of ASOM, shared that the coalition, now consisting of 16 parties, is strategizing for the 2026 Assembly elections.

Congress leader Jakir Hussain Sikdar stated that the name change reflects public sentiment and confidence in forming the next government. In response, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma dismissed the rebranding, stating it shows a lack of confidence within the opposition.
