Survey Confirms 36 Snow Leopards in Arunachal Pradesh
A survey by the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (DoEFCC) and WWF-India has identified 36 snow leopards in Arunachal Pradesh. Minister Wangki Lowang released the report, the first of its kind for the state.
The survey establishes a baseline for monitoring these apex predators, which are culturally significant in the region. It included challenging fieldwork using camera traps and community interviews.
Findings show over 80% of locals confirm snow leopard presence, with threats primarily from accidental killings and infrastructure development.
