Dredging to Restore Nimatighat-Majuli Ferry Route
Ferry services between Nimatighat (Jorhat) and Kamalabari Ghat (Majuli) have been suspended for several days due to heavy silting. Dredging of the Brahmaputra riverbed will begin Tuesday, supervised by experts from IIT Madras. A dredger from Dibrugarh is en route to restore the route.
In the meantime, travelers are advised to use the Nimatighat-Afalamukh Ghat route, where additional ferry services are available to avoid overcrowding. The Nimatighat-Kamalabari route is one of the most used for daily crossings between Jorhat and Majuli, which often faces disruptions during the rainy season.
