Rally in Jorhat Demands ST Status and Chutia Autonomous Council

A rally at Rajabari’s ITI Field, organized by the All Assam Chutia Students’ Union, renewed demands for the Chutia community’s inclusion in the ST list and the creation of a Chutia Autonomous Council. Union leaders criticized the BJP-led government for failing to meet pre-election promises, warning of further democratic agitation if demands are unmet.

Protests in Dibrugarh and Tinsukia also disrupted daily life, with demonstrators calling for ST status for six indigenous communities. Tensions rose as protesters clashed with security forces, leading to air firing in some areas.
