Protest in Guwahati Against Elephant Transfers to Gujarat

Citizens and conservationists held a sit-in at Chachal ground, Guwahati, opposing the transfer of 20 elephants from Northeast India to Jamnagar, Gujarat. Protesters argued the transfers violated natural habitats and flouted Captive Elephant Rules, 2024, citing lack of proper genetic profiling. A memorandum, signed by prominent environmentalists, was sent to the President of India seeking intervention to stop such relocations, calling them unethical and harmful to the elephants.
