Assam Faces Revenue Loss Due to Illegal Diesel Transport

Assam is losing significant VAT revenue due to illegal diesel transportation. Chief Secretary Dr. Ravi Kota has directed stricter enforcement, including joint police-tax operations, GPS tracking of fuel tankers, and border district vigilance.

Authorities will enforce strict verification of transport documents and conduct inspections at petrol pumps and storage facilities. The North East India Petroleum Dealers’ Association warns that VAT evasion costs the state around ₹250 crore monthly, impacting key public welfare programs.
