IIT Guwahati Develops Fluorescent Sensor to Detect Cyanide in Water and Cells
IIT Guwahati researchers, led by Prof G Krishnamoorthy, have developed a fluorescent “turn-on” sensor that detects cyanide in water and human cells under UV light. The sensor emits a bright cyan color when cyanide is present and works in lab, tap, and river water with up to 93% accuracy. It can be used in paper strips and live cell imaging, offering applications in environmental and forensic fields. The sensor’s detection limit is well below WHO standards.
