Assam Records 34% Rainfall Deficit in June Despite Early Monsoon Onset

Brief: Assam received only 272 mm rainfall in June against the normal 415.2 mm — a 34% deficit. Western districts like Bajali (−77%) and Darrang (−76%) were worst hit. Eastern districts also saw major shortfalls, including Dibrugarh (−56%). Eight districts were “largely deficient” and 15 “deficient”; only Cachar had excess rain (+24%). Meghalaya (−46%) and Arunachal Pradesh (−40%) also faced deficits. IMD forecasts below-normal rainfall and above-normal temperatures in July, possibly marking the fifth consecutive weak monsoon for the region.
