Assam Worker Shot Dead in Arunachal: Mising Groups Launch Indefinite Blockade

After Shankar Pegu, a construction worker from Assam, was allegedly shot dead in Roing, Arunachal Pradesh, three Mising community bodies — TMPK, MMK, and TMMK — began an indefinite road blockade from Tuesday. Key entry points like Banderdewa, Hollongi, and Likabali have been affected.

Police said Pegu died from a headshot after an argument with Tadar Bhai, reportedly over money. The accused has been arrested, and a murder case has been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Pegu is survived by his wife, two daughters, and parents.

The protest follows another violent incident in Roing on July 11, where a migrant labourer was lynched, prompting ongoing restrictions by local authorities.
