Guwahati Kicks Off Evictions for 800-Bigha Anti-Flood Reservoir Project

The Assam Housing and Urban Affairs Department began evicting Guwahati’s IHM campus to make way for a major reservoir project aimed at tackling urban floods. Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah called it a tough but vital move. Temporary arrangements for IHM have been made, with a permanent campus planned in Sonapur. Demolitions will continue over 15 days, followed by evictions of Ginger Hotel and tennis courts. The Minister also launched city-wide inspections to ensure building law compliance and protect natural drainage.
