Massive Eviction Drive Set in Uriamghat to Clear Encroached Forest Land

Ahead of Tuesday’s eviction drive, Uriamghat in Assam’s Golaghat saw heavy deployment of 700–800 security personnel. The operation targets illegal settlers in the Rengma Forest Reserve. Nearly 70% have vacated voluntarily, but authorities aim for full clearance. AASU and local groups support the eviction and urge strict measures. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed confidence in a peaceful operation. The drive could free up 11,000 bighas of forest land.
