Assam’s Largest Eviction Drive Clears 10,000 Bighas in Uriamghat

Assam’s major eviction drive in Uriamghat, Golaghat entered its third day on Thursday, aiming to clear 10,000 bighas of encroached land. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said this will raise the state’s total reclaimed land to 1.39 lakh bighas. The operation, conducted in the Disputed Area Belt near the Assam-Nagaland border, saw cooperation from Nagaland Police and CRPF. So far, around 1,655 hectares have been cleared, affecting nearly 300 residents and several betelnut plantations. The drive remains peaceful under heavy security.
