Assam Govt Hails HC Order on Forest Encroachment Monitoring

The Assam government welcomed Gauhati High Court’s directive to create a monitoring system against forest land encroachment. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma called it a “historic seal” on eviction efforts, noting officials will now be held accountable. The order also extends eviction notice periods to 15 days and mandates recognition of land ownership claims. Sarma said the ruling strengthens the government’s resolve to free encroached forest land.
