Parliament Approves Assam’s First IIM in Guwahati

Parliament has cleared the establishment of Assam’s first Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Guwahati at a cost of ₹550 crore. Recognized as an institution of national importance, it fulfills Clause 7 of the Assam Accord. Welcoming the move, AASU called it historic, while CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said it strengthens Assam’s position as an educational hub alongside IIT and AIIMS. The new IIM, the second in the Northeast after Shillong, is expected to boost research, innovation, and economic growth.
