Guwahati Lawyers Boycott Court Over CJM Office Relocation

Court proceedings in Guwahati came to a halt on Tuesday as members of the Lawyers Association, Guwahati, observed a day-long boycott to protest the relocation of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court, Kamrup (M), to the General Administration Department (GAD) building.

Lawyers from the Sessions Court, CJM Court, and CBI Court joined the protest, leading to a complete shutdown.

General Secretary Apurba Kumar Sarma criticized the move as “unnecessary and ill-planned,” calling the new location unsuitable for judicial work. He alleged the relocation was made under false pretences, dismissing safety concerns about the old court building.
