Sarbananda Sonowal Highlights Major Investments in Brahmaputra Waterway Development

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal informed the Rajya Sabha that ₹498 crore has been invested in the development of National Waterway-2 (Brahmaputra) from 2020–21 to 2024–25. Projects include terminals at Bogibeel and Jogighopa, tourist jetties, fairway development, and navigational aids.
He added that a ship repair facility and elevated road at Pandu are being developed at a cost of ₹419 crore. Work on NW-16 (Barak River) worth ₹134.72 crore has also been undertaken, while NW-57 (Kopili River) has been operationalised. The ministry is also promoting river cruise and religious tourism across Assam.
