Fresh Violence Erupts in Kheroni Bazaar, Police Use Tear Gas

Violence continued in Kheroni near the Kopili River on Tuesday as protests spread to the local bazaar, where shops were vandalised and goods looted. Tensions escalated after Education Minister Ranoj Pegu left the area, despite assurances of a tripartite meeting with agitating locals and the KAAC.

Police resorted to lathi charge and tear gas to disperse the mob, while fires were reported at multiple locations. Director General of Police Harmeet Singh is on the ground to control the situation and warned of strict action. Prohibitory orders remain in force, though crowds continue to defy restrictions. The situation remains tense, with reports of injuries and damage to property.
