CID Cyber Police Probe ‘Digital Arrest’ Scam Targeting Jorhat Doctor

The Cyber Police Station of CID Assam has launched an investigation after a Jorhat-based doctor was duped in a ‘digital arrest’ cyber scam. The victim, Dr Sadagar Deuri, Professor of Surgery at Jorhat Medical College and Hospital, reportedly lost around ₹49 lakh to fraudsters posing as law enforcement officials.

After an FIR was registered, police froze over ₹8 lakh in the initial phase and are working with banks to trace and recover more funds. The Cyber Cell warned the public that no agency carries out arrests or demands money over calls and urged people to report suspicious contacts to cybercrime authorities.
