Assam Police Bust IMK Module, Warn of Expanding Jihadi Network

Security agencies have raised serious concern over growing jihadi activities in Assam, with efforts to build networks using routes along the Bangladesh border. The Assam Police, in coordination with central agencies, identified the Imam Mahmuder Kafila (IMK) module and arrested 11 of its members through the Special Task Force.

IMK, a Bangladesh-based offshoot of the banned Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh, allegedly used encrypted online platforms like ‘Purba Akash’ to radicalise and recruit youths in Assam, West Bengal and Tripura. Investigations revealed attempts to revive extremist networks after recent political changes in Bangladesh, with recruitment, indoctrination and coordination linked to handlers across the border. Further probes are ongoing.
